The rediscovery of the Shang began with the discovery of strange inscriptions that resembling Chinese on turtle plastrons. Wang Yirong, an expert in ancient Chinese texts, sent his pharmacist for turtle plastron for his sick family member. Unknowingly, one of the members discovered inscriptions on them before they were sent for grounding. These bones speak of tragedy and childbirth of nobles to the communal. Descriptions of sacrifices, both human and animal, signs of natural forces, brief statements and alliances with foreign tribes are inscribed on. David N Keightley explained that diviners would use the bones to predict an event. Materials are cleaned, thinned and by drilling notches at its back. Then applying a hot object, the surface would crack representing a voice from another world. The king would then interpret the crack carving it onto the object, with an original divination statement. The oracle bones also refer to persons who appeared in traditional historical texts, proving ancient myths.

Reality television, dominating the tube right now, is about the real antics of real people. Parading across a celebrity-driven medium, these shows feature people getting insulted humbled and humiliated. Money is behind the boom of reality shows as these shows have high ratings, but low costs. Furthermore, reality shows also shows people exposing something and embarrassment or disappointment as networks gain money putting on these shows, which people like to watch. These shows erase the boundaries between the public and the private keeping people up with society. They also gain on getting people curistory and giving people surprise in the allotted time slot. Shows include dating and courtship and giving people the universal experience however, they are manifestly unreal and are unscripted drama. As time goes on, producers add more bells and whistles and gimmicks, eventually going completely over the top, turning off both viewers and advertisers.

International Friendship Day - Our World

Being a good ambassador of Singapore is not difficult.I should be open to cultural diversity all around the world and be able to understand it. I must also strive to promote Singapore's national interests and always portrait their best image as Singaporeans whenever i am overseas. Besides that, being an ambassador, I must work hard and contribute to the society and if i have the chance to work overseas in the future, I would learn from them and bring the knowledge back to Singapore and implement on our our country thus improving Singapore.

Countries form alliances to protect its own national interest, both military and economically. Singapore is small against countries such like the USA,USSR and Japan. Therefore, it is much at a disadvantage in an event of a war. Alliances help Singapore as if it was to be involved in a world, its alliances would back her up and help her. Alliances also help to promote peace as if there were conflicts between countries, peace can be negotiate instead of moving into war. Some alliances including Singapore are, ASEAN and the UN.

Fostering close ties with other countries benefited Singapore much over the years. Fostering ties can help to deal with international problems under one domain. Countries sit down together for conferences and meetings to discuss what can be done to improve these situation. Some examples would be like human and drug trafficking and nabbing of illegal or criminal immigrants. Furthermore, Singapore can also help to improve the environment through environmental talks and seminars.

Some of the things which untie nations together would be trade and common interest. One example would be the Olympics games which not only benefit the hosting country, but also the neighbouring countries. The games boost the tourism rate as ambassadors from all the other parts of the world would come down and support for their own countries. Besides that, uniting nations together would form a common market and thus boosting the world economy going up. The respective countries benefit as the other parts of the world would demand for its goods.

Reflection on Total Defence Day

During our total defence day and Chinese new year celebrations, we learned about the five aspects of total defence. Military, Civil, Economic, Social and Psychological Defence. Booths were put up by the different uniform groups in my school, consisting the national police cadet corps, national cadet corps and red cross youth. Life saving skills were thought and drill performance were put up and i enjoyed it alot. Furthermore, the awareness of the NE messages in ensuring the continuance of our nation was further emphasises. The messages include,

We treasure our heritage and take pride in shaping our own unique way of life. Through our Chinese new year celebrations Indian Dances, singing of chinese new year songs and exchanging greeting from Malay friends, we learned that Singapore is our homeland; this is where we belong.

We must also preserve racial and religious harmony. For instance, the different races celebrating together for Chinese new year..We must also ourselves defend Singapore.

We should be proud to defend Singapore ourselves, as no one else is responsible for our security and well-being. Through booths by our uniform gorup /NE trail- Life saving skills by red cross , Drill performances by our NCC)

Through these programmes, i have learn alot and have more confidence in our nation and our future.
